Upgrading the Cumbrian highway network
The Cumbrian highway network serves communities along the Irish Sea coast and nationally significant employment sites. Levelling Up funding will see a comprehensive programme of improvement works on:
the A5086 between Cockermouth and Egremont
the A595 south of Sellafield
the A590 through Barrow-in-Furness
The improvements include:
resurfacing and drainage works
repairs to 21 bridge structures
Support communities and business
The investment will:
improve access to employment opportunities and services
reduce travel costs
reduce road closures due to highway defects
